There are places called hostels where travelers can stay for a lower fee then hotels or motels. There's your grain.

God I hope not!
There is a lot in the media about the 'slave trade' of young women from Eastern Europe so maybe it was based on that.
A lot of kids go missing each year and every now and again a group gets uncovered for something disgusting- how much we believe in the media is uncertain but it seems there are bad bad people out there.
To what extent? God I hope not!

the answer is yes, but not any more. in the 40's 50's and 60' the russian mofia would abduct tourists and kepp them in holding for rich people to torcher in anyway they wanted. Thusly the movie is only losely based on fact due to the fact that all the characters had cell phones yet decided not to use them wisely.

There are hostels throughout alot of Europe, but I seriously doubt that would, or ever has happened. I've never even heard a rumor.

Yes absolutley, the director even got death threats for making this film and had to have bodyguards with him 24/7.
My hubby is a film buff thats why I know this!!!

apparently yes there is truth to the story. some say it is urban myth but a friend in the ukraine stated he has heard more than stories about it. scary to know that that sort of thing can happen
