Dial up is when your computer is hooked up to your phone line. If you use dial up when you are on your computer then you are tying up your phone line. In another words you cant talk on the house phone or be on the Internet at the same time. Not unless you are Thur a telephone company where you can. Example: Sprint... Usually dial up is alot slower too.
Broadband usually runs Thur a cable, maybe Thur a satellite dish, or any other source. Broadband is alot faster then what Dial up is.

Broadband (cable) is direct and fast. Dial up is slow
For instance......you can download something from the internet and can take hours on dial up
On broadband it can take on a minute or so.
Pages come up faster...........Go with Broadband. I have it and will never go back to dial up. Can't compare.
Also, with dial up you cannot talk on the phone as you use your phone line to use the internet. Broadband you can talk on the phone and use the internet as it does not go thru your phone line.

Simply put, Dial up service uses the telephone line to connect to your internet service provider. In other words, you cannot use Dial up service and make/receive telephone calls at the same time.
Broadband services is high speed internet connection access. The broadband modem still connects to your telephone line but the internet connection uses other methods of connecting. you can still use your telephone simultaneously.
Dial up service is slower -- 56 kilobytes/ second transfer
Broadband have much higher speed - in megabytes /second.

Dial up is establishing on sending signals that their range are in 20Hz and 20Khz and they will be send over the line sequentialy. and with this you can only have at most 115200bps speed on the line.
But the broadband connection like DSL , ADLS , LAN and etc are using diffrent kind of technology
DSL and ADSL uses higher frequency levels on phone lines that provide you up to 10Mbps speed on the line
and Lan because of the seperate and shielded twisted pairs can support data delivery up to 1000Mbps .
