We're born with THE ABILITY to learn emotions. However, they're developed through contact. A person would never know hate if he didn't LEARN it after he/she was born.

Yes. We are emotional beings right from birth. From several different experiments, we know that as babies we respond to emotional expressions, like a big smile on our face, within the first few weeks of life. Many researchers now think that within three months as babies we can react to and express five "basic" emotions,
Joy
Interest
Anger
Sadness
Disgust
The emotion of fear is also one of the basic emotions we all have, which begins to show up at around 7 to 8 months.)
Most think we are born with these emotional abilities to help us form strong bonds with caregivers, thus helping us survive. That really is quite amazing, considering it wasn't long ago, when we smiled as an infant it was considered to be relatively meaningless. Now we know better. Although our emotions are not fully developed,as infants we are already beginning to show hints of an emotional life.

You probably don't remember your birth, but you came out more than likely loudly expressing an emotion, either frustration or shock through tears.

People are born with a range of emotions, some higher set , some lower set but environment can wipe away or dwarf those emotions.

There have been psychological experiments with both monkeys and children who upon being neglected by their 'mothers' shut down their emotions, became withdrawn and depressed, didn't interact with people because they had no level of experience to be nurtured and loved.

Nobody is born devoid of emotions that happens over time and lack of nurturance.

We are born with them, but then some of us have them crushed down into tiny little locked boxes inside us. If you watch babies and young kids, there is no question that emotions are there. But if you are dealt with coldly and repeatedly told to "suck it up" and "be a man" or you're put down and mocked every time you display any emotion, you will learn to lock them away and be uncomfortable with them.

That having been said, there are a small percentage of the population who are born without the ability to empathize with other human beings or animals. They truly cannot feel for another person which makes it easier for them to learn to be manipulative and even cruel. But this is a relatively small percentage of people.

Emotions are developed. But they are starting from the first day after our birth. Researches has shown that the twins raised one year together have almost same emotions and attitude. After one year they are separated and one year have lived in totally deferment surrounding. They had extremely different reactions on the things, different emotions and attitude. According above noticed, emotions are developed dip ending on our surrounding, and interactions with it.

Not all emotions are not inborn. But we are surely born with some emotions. For example the emotion of crying whenever someone hurts us is inborn. Whereas that of care builds up with time. With time we start to care for people. It's not something which is innate in us.
