The US? Maybe. RIght now the US is racing down the same road as the Roman Empire. I don't know if the US will make morally or financially.
The EU? I'll be surprised if the EU lasts another 10 years. The people of Europe (I live in Italy) are very proud of their individual country's heritage. To the point that their pride is pretty much the same thing as snobbery. A perfect example I have is an Italian friend who lives only 2 hours from both Austria and Slovenia, but has never been to either. When asked why, she just wrinkles her nose at the thought and says because she is Italian.
That aside, and that is a huge piece to set aside, once again, there are financial considerations. The EU and the move to the Euro has done nothing but drag the European economy down. Unemployment rates in Western European countries are at an all time high, with serveral countries seriously considering going back to their own currency. Most Europeans see the EU as a waste and a huge fraudulent beauracracy (of which there has been plenty of evidence in the news)... I think all they really wanted or needed was some border and trade agreements.

The USA will still be around:smarter, better, and wiser,I hope. You cannot compare the US to Rome, since we have rejected the concept of Empire. We have learned you don't have to militarily occupy a country to control it,or reap the financial rewards from it.Of course, the USA may not exist as it does now, either.
