Is humankind really THAT selfish?

Question

I posted a question about helping a dying little girl 40 minutes ago and no answers. I posted a question about "what kind of answers do you answer here" kinda thing and have 5 within 5 minutes.
Is this a reflection on human nature in general? What do you think?

Personally I'm glad your disappointed, you've just connected to everyone that has shared the same feeling. We must have those down feelings and through empathy know you are not alone. I say this because I've felt the same way. Something I've come to realize is not every one is going to feel the same way as me, but in my heart I know that one person does. I've read all three of your last posted questions and choose to answer this one, why, because life has given me a choice, This Q&A is a wonderful fourm for the exchange of ideas and information that are meaningful but I also have to realize that some use it for fun or points, what ever their motives are I have to accept them. Your question about the little girl got no real responce,look at it this way, many people read it, you planted a seed that may take awhile to sprout, in ways you may never realize. Who's to say in the future they may realize they missed a opportunity to help someone and end up helping someone else. Find joy in knowing you did your part in bringing that awareness up. Then accept the fact that the results are out of your hands. We can't change the world only the one we live in, us, with the hope that our positive energy will shine on all. It does. As to your statment about this being a reflection of human nature in general, sure it does. With the thought in mind that every one is not at the same place in devoloping their humanness, their spirituality. That only happens over time if a person is willing to take the time to develope it. My hope is that it will happen.

I have to say that people as a whole are jaded toward things like your question about the dying girl. I just read it, and to be honest it sounds alot like the scams we see all over the internet, hear about on the news, or find in our mailboxes.
People probably didn't respond to your question, because in truth, it is hard to tell what's real and what is fake with things like that. We are all afraid of being ripped off or having our identity stolen, and as a result we have hardened our hearts toward things like that.

I think its less a matter of being selfish, and more a matter of fear and trust. We live ina grey time, and it is not so easy to desern between right and wrong, good and evil, or a real plea for help and just another internet scam.

i didn't see a question about helping a dying little girl. i saw the one about what kind of questions do you answer here, and thought it was another one of those questions that try to make you feel stupid for being here. there are too many questions that start out like that, that you go to answer to try to help, only to find that you've been had. since this forum has community guidelines, i think these people need to be booted, so that people who do just care don't have to skim over questions that may be valid, or are just some jerk's idea of being funny. i don't see a choice to report these people anymore, so what do you do? i only have a limited time here and don't want it to be wasted. give us back the report feature, so we truly can know the questions are valid, so that we can try to help. what does this say about human nature? that there are too many jerks being given free license to waste other peoples time.

No, I think the main reason you have not received many responses is that people are aware of scams. Right or wrong most of us have been burnt and with age you tend to be more careful. Sometimes I think the world has gone mad but then I usually meet someone who is kind or see them act with kindness and my faith in mankind is somewhat restored. I do think more people are selfish then ever before. I think some of the young people are so spoiled that they don't realize how aloof they are and I would like to see people be more considerate to one another. Be nice it's as simple as that.

Your question was more of a solicitation. People tend to use this site for fun and for informative purposes. When someone decides use this medium to solicit for donations or sympathy it gets ignored simply because this is not the forum to do it.

Just like you wouldn't walk into a church expecting and demanding to see a exotic dancer on a pole, you cannot expect people to respond to a dying little girl on Yahoo answers.

People don't go on this site to help dying girls. They go on this site for entertainment. It's not a reflection of human nature in general. It's a reflection of the forum you've chosen to use.

i think i answered the other question . ( one in 5 ) your qn about a dying girl i did not see. had i seen it , would i have answered ? i don't know. would it have helped anyone had i answered it? what i do is after answering a qn i submit it and then choose from the 6-8 questions offered by yahoo. there i choose interesting ones. i dont actually search for any qns most of the time.

I think it's a question of timing, 40 minutes ago most people here were asleep. You can't expect answers if no one is on line.

Get used to it, Humans are greedy and greed consumes the soul. We are all ignorant, selfish and we feel that when we are in power that people that are "lower" then us are nothing but people to be used. Most humans are like this, not all of us, but sadly it's the majority.

it's not selfish. more like fooling himself. i dont know why people only try to see the lighter side of things. maybe there is too much sufffering around them and in their own lives particularly that they would rather stay off a controversial topic. kinda like drinking themselves just to ease the pain (though i haven't really tried it).
