i strongly recommend the mexican film "y tu mama tambien" starring gael garcia bernal and diego luna, and screenplay by alfonso cuaron . really awesome flick. about 2 blokes and a babe in a roadtrip....anything goes.
and yeah..."le fabuleux destin d amelie poulain" is also good. tautou is cute. i heart her.

If you don't mind action, I'm quite fond of this unique historical werewolf action movie called Brotherhood of the Wolf,
or Le Pacte De Loups.
I also love Nightwatch, but sadly they dubbed it in the U.S.
Haute Tension, or High Tension as it's called in the states was a pretty cool French horror flick.
When it comes out on DVD, if you like action, Banlieu 13 rivals pretty much any U.S. action blockbuster.
Downfall is hands down the most powerful foreign language film I've seen.

Belle Epoque. It won best foreign film academy award. Spanish language comedy. By today's standards it might be considered something of a 3 stooges like film. The comedy is something of that nature.
