its not true each player has his own strength and weaknesses. like your dad likes Pete some may not like his style at all, so its an individual preference as you like federar and some may not...it depends upon how you perceive the game.if all these tennis players were not good you would not have seen them playing at all

Sampras seems to be underappreciated while Federer's all around game garners praise from all corners. Federer's best seems to be better than Sampras's best, but Sampras played at near his best, tournament after tournament for seven years. He gets a lot of points for playing so well for so long. If Federer can keep it up, I think he will surpass Sampras, but that is a tall order. There are two areas where Sampras will probably never be surpasses. The first was his serve and volley game. He hit volleys with insane touch and placement. These balls are moving 80mph and he's dropping them right on target point after point. Just amazing. The second was his second serve. On such a high pressure shot, he was perfect every time. Placement, spin, power, everything you might expect from a first serve, he could deliver on the second serve. Like I said, really underappreciated.

You're entirely correct!
Federer's all-around game far outshines Sampras'. Time will definitely prove that Federer is the best of all time.
You know, it's a real shame that Sampras had such an outstanding serve and forehand. It made for some very boring tennis matches.

Everybody has his own point of view.. I think that your dad said that because he loves Pete Sampras best. Perhaps if you grew up in the same generation as he did, you might have preferred Pete Sampras too........

i agree with you...while Pete had the natural tennis ability Roger has the work ethics and the fundementals...if you ever watch Roger play and have any experience what so ever you will be blown away...plus reading some interviews which he has done the little things he does so perfectly that most players seem to forget are what really set him apart i believe. Pete was an amazing player however i do think Roger will beat alot of his records....(According to one interview taken after a WTT match that Pete played in he agreed as well)

I'm with you on this one. Federer is likely to eclipse Sampras. Federer has already won an astounding 4 straight Wimbledons. Pete had 7 - and there's no doubt in my mind that Federer will reach that number. If your dad is referring to Pete's record of Major wins... sorry - but Roger is on pace to pass it. And there is no sign of him letting up.
Roger's strength is his concentration and incredible consistancy combined with power. Pete's strength was his huge serve and awesome ability to win big points (also possessed by Federer).
Federer will set records - no question in my mind

Someone will come along and beat his record but it will take a few more years. I don't see anyone now that can do that.
