I don't think there is any exact and definite definition of "evening". It varies, depending on your location. Where I live people often use the word "evening" when referring to afternoon - any time after 12:00 noon until about 8:00 p.m., and then use the word night. According to Nextel, evenings start at 9:00 pm. I have no idea what that time between afternoon and evening is called. I suppose that cell phone service providers think that is doesn't exist.

Accoding to the gospel of British Telecommunications Evening is from 6pm through to 6am. Thats when you get the evening rates on the phones!!
