The removal of most scratches would be safer and easier done by a machine polisher assuming that the scratch isn't too deep. A touch-up kit would work, but matching paint color is difficult.
If the scratch didn't go down to the metal and is about as thin as a fingernail, you can try Meguiar's ScratchX (you can find it at Wal-mart and the like). ScratchX was made for hand application, just be sure to use a microfiber towel to minimize any potential surface marring. Now, don't expect it to go away magically, it may take multiple applications before it's been disguised. Just try not to apply too much pressure or you'll end up with a marred finish, but no scratch.

you simply use a wax (turtle) or a rubbing compound (common industrial), repeated and a patient rubbing of the scratched surface will definitely help in removing or masking the damage. good luck
