I don't know whether your question refers to how you perceive the things around you (sensory perception) or how we process this information and make judgments about them. Anyway, things are not always as they seem. Your other question, it's almost the other extreme, I would say perception of the things (in general) depends on your previous experience and knowledge of the things.

You need to examine things yourself. You have to have your own opinion.
Then you could get an opinion off someone who might have more knowledge on the subject, then weigh it up. Calculate the facts. Things are then how you make them seem, your option.

If families are fragmented , using drugs, and are generally unstable, then things are usually not what they seem.
