Please gie me a good topic to start a community [web-based discussion portal] on.
I have already developed the registeration-login-logout system in php, which means the website is ready to roll out with all functions.
I want the website mainly for indians where others can join in, i would like a topic which is not taken up by many users.
Please suggest a topic.
Regards,
Sunny Kumar Gupta

Generally, form follows function. Which is to say that if you want an online community, the back-office work that you've done in creating a website with a php login system is good, but you have the cart before the horse.

You can ask other people for suggestions all day long. But ultimately, that needs to be your job. If you want to create somethinat that's sustainable, it needs to be something that you want to do.

So, to get the horse out front, ask yourself some personal questions (and don't filter your answers for online compatibility at first):
1. What are you good at?
2. What are you passionate about?
3. What do you like to talk about with other people?
4. What kinds of things do you like to do with other people?
5. Is there something that you're an expert at?

When you've answered those questions, you can begin to take a look at the answers and then ask yourself a few questions?
1. In what ways do these ideas lend themselves to a community or group?
2. How can I integrate what I know and love into an online format?
3. How can I make this format relational?

Creativity is something that we all have inside us when we're born. Take the creativity that God has given you and learn to use it to its fullest.

Hi. I'm not an Indian but how about you talk about Bollywood vs Hollywood. Should Indians watch Bollywood movies because they have to support it (as it is Indian-based) or can Indians just not watch it if they prefer Hollywood movies? Can this be a form of insult or betrayal to Indians? Is Bollywood really representing Indian culture? Anyway, you can create a topic along those lines...
Personally, I dig Bollywood movies! Good luck with your website! I hope it becomes a success!

Maybe you can look into general blogging...a bunch of my friends have blogs mainly because they just like to write about stuff that goes on in their lives. it doesnt have to be about a very specific topic...sometimes writing about something soo specific everyday(like video games for example) can get quie boring after a while.

I have recenltly made a website where i post blogs about school, work and anything else that goes on. I use it kind of like a release when i've got free time. On my website i also post drawings i've done, photos and movies. If you want you can check it out. Maybe it'll give you some inspiration.

The site title - Did you mean "Innovations"? If so, correct the title. You could create some broad categories, and people could post topics themselves. Categories could include things like Introduce Yourself, Cultural/Community Events, Political Discussion, Recipies, Merchants/Vendors.

kewlsurf..... wrong Indian, you dummy.....

Mr. Gupta, why don't you start a "Hello" thread, where people can introduce themselves, and post a little bit of information about themselves.

This is usually one of the first things that most forums do, and it's a highly successful tactic that brings people together. If you want to start an online community, this is usually the first big step you can take with it.
