It also appears even if the microphone is disconnected and I try to record something. Upon playback, I hear the same whine. I just barely got this computer and the Logitech microphone to go with it, but I can't figure out just what could be causing this to happen. I'm trying to get Speech Recognition up and running, but it won't let me pass the test, could this whine be the problem? Thanks!

Could be an issue related to "ground". The high pitched sound may be caused by use of equipment that is not properly grounded. Try touching the back of the computer chasis to see if that has any affect on the sound. If it does, then may be you just need to find some way of grounding the computer.

If that doesn't affect the sound, may be you could try a different kind of microphone. Try a USB mic instead of an analog mic.

Are the speakers super close to the microphone when magnets that produce sound are put to close together, you can get a whining sound.
