Whats the best style of shoe, that will go with any clothes and any occasion (sports excluded)?
Oxfords:- no, too formal.
Boat shoes:- no, my boss wears them.
Chelsea boots:- trousers get caught on them.

you can get nice brown/black leather slip ons from places like schuh, or schuh.com (I think) that look great with jeans or trousers.

You sound like you're either a victim of fashion or a woman. Just wear a pair that are comfortable for you and dress 'up' accordingly. There's no point in wearing shoes that rub and give your feet blisters just so you look good.
Next you'll be going to club in the middle of winter with just a sleeveless top and shorts on. How women don't freeze to death when they just wear skimpy dresses in winter I'll never know!
Sandals without the socks should work for you...

Black shoes from Kenneth Cole - you can dress them up, wear them with jeans and set you backa C note.
