Well that does depend on where you are located... You should go to the foreign exchanges stores to verify prices and compare rates with the banks and postal service, some agencies only want the pounds for re-selling them for a better rate and that’s where the profit is. (with no commission or fee)

that brings to the fore again that question: why does UK not simply join the Euro zone? Can't be that Brits are proud of their traditions: everytime I meet one they have nothing more urgent to do but complain about their government.

Imagine: you drive from Athens to Lisbon: in the bad old days you had to use at least 5 different currencies. Now it's just the Euro.No "bureau de change" waiting to rip you off.

well dont go to a bank thats for sure... i was in England recenlty and i changed €400 to pounds and only got €229 back!!!!!! Obviously the exchange rate was crap that day but it was still a rip off...

post office is not good. they advertise no commission but they recoup this in their poor exchange rate. if you have a good package with your own bank they will usually offer you a good rate and commission free too.

if you are a student, your bank might give you a better deal than usual.
