Between the X-Men and the Justice League of America...
...First, there is the complex question of which generation of both teams...
...For the sake of argument, let's just use the more recent versions of both--Frank Quitely's X-Men and Mark Waid/Bryan Hitch's JLA.

While the X-Men are one of Marvel's most formidable teams, they aren't quite in the same league (no pun intended) as the Justice League. In terms of experience as superheroes, the Justice League has an ageless Amazon (Wonder Woman) who comes from a society that has preserved since ancient Greece. Not to mention Wally West, the Flash, has been an active superhero since he was fifteen (he was originally Kid Flash, sidekick of Barry Allen).

And as juvenile as it may seem to say so, the X-Men just don't stack up to the JLA in simple terms of power. One comparrison would be the Brotherhood's Quicksilver (Pietro Maximoff) vs. the Justice League's Flash (Wally West). Quicksilver's top speed almost breaches the speed of sound--approx. Mach 1. Jay Garrick, the original Flash and one of the less powerful speedsters has made Mach 500 without batting an eye (JSA Book 3: The Return of Hawkman). Wally himself has broken lightspeed more than a few times. Between the Flash, Plastic Man, the Atom, and of course Superman, the Justice League packs the bigger guns.

Not to shoot down the X-Men, though. Wolverine's healing factor makes him nigh invincible. And Xavier's telepathy would match J'onzz's easily. In fact, the only being in DC who is possibly a match for Xavier's mental abilities would be Henry King Jr. aka Brainwave (before his powers were reduced by the Atom and Mr. Mind--JSA Book 8: Black Reign).

However, what I have yet to bring up is the fact that I can't see these two teams just stepping into an arena and duking it out. There'd have to be some kind of McGuffin between them--some reason for their conflict. Between Superman, Wonder Woman and J'onn J'onzz on the JLA, and Xavier, Jean Grey and Cyclops--and even Nightcrawler on the X-Men, I think they've both got their fair share of level-headed pacifists.

The one thing that would be the most fun to see, though, is how well Cyclops would stand against the Batman in terms of battlefield strategy.

If I'm leaving anything out, in terms of the X-Men's history, please let me know--I know very little about them. Everything I do know comes from a well-read friend. DC is my domain.

When I saw this question, my immediate thought was that the X-Men would win. This is simple--Justice League is always fair and they only use necessary force. The same cannot be said for characters like Wolverine, who test the limits of what is right and wrong constantly. Without boundaries such as the Justice League will probably set, and with pretty similar powers, there is almost no way that the X-Men can be defeated.

That's kind of sad, though. I wouldn't want these people to have to fight at all. They're all on the side of helping the weak. In fact, I don't think they would fight for any normal reason. However, we all know how often the villain makes two good guys face off as part of some twisted game, so in that case, X-Men get my vote.

Since apparently Wolverine is now unkillable, the X-men would "win." He would simply hunt each and every one of them down and kill them. I suppose if, after a few members died and Wolverine kept coming back, Batman would figure out that Wolvie is unkillable and convince Superman to throw Wolverine into the Sun, where the gravity of the Sun would hold him there at the core. Not kill him, mind you, but hold him there. But if Batman dies first, nobody else would be able to figure it out and do what needs to be done.

I mean geez, Wolverine was reduced to a skeleton by Nitro and came back like five minutes later! And he used to be such an interesting character too...

Back in the days before Marvel comics lost every ounce of editorial control over the writer monkeys, the X-men might still win, if Rogue could trick the Flash into getting close (easy since Wally's such a frat boy), absorb his speed, and then touch Superman. It would be a nasty contest then. Rogue almost took down all the Avengers single-handedly after touching Thor.

May you can add some more. I can't remember.

And who knows maybe more fast guys will show up. It still depends.

Justice League all the way, the X-Men don't have a single mutant who can rival Superman. He can single-handedly wipe out the whole team with his strength and super speed.

The Xmen would realise that the Justice League will easily destroy them, and they would agree not to fight.Superman alone can send the entire Xmen crew to Hell.He is indestructible. He is not even from earth. He is from Crypton.

i'm ashamed to answer this question, but definitely the justice league. as noted, above, the whole team are as dust before superman, excepting, perhaps, magik, if you count her (as superman's succeptible to sorcery). one assumes they don't even know about kryptonite! now, supes vs the juggernaut (whose power is magically derived)...

The X-Men would beat the JLA first, though inconclusively. Then the Justice Leage would regroup, figure out how they were beaten and what they had done wrong; then, having had their confidence restored, they would return to win!
