hey there.. I'm FTM so have some of the same issues...
estrogen will cause your fat distribution to be different... you will hold fat in places the average female does.. which is gonna be the butt, hips and thighs mainly... if you are worried about gaining muscle then I would stick to cardio... there is no way you can not at least maintain some amount of muscle... estrogen will slow the muscle gain alot.. stick to cardio though.. if you don't exercise at all right now Id start out at 20-30 minutes 3 times a week... then increase after a few weeks to 1 hour... anything that gets your heart rate into fat burning target range is good enough if... if you cant do alot of walking then do aerobics or even just some fast paced dancing... cardio is the fastest way to lose fat..
the longer your heart rate stays within your target range the more calories you burn... You also need to pay attention to your diet...
carbs are not a bad thing...people need carbs for energy... no energy means no motivation to exercise... its the type of carbs you take in and when you take them in that affects you the most...
If i were you id stick to complex carbs mainly during the day..these are a few natural complex carbs Bran,Wheatgerm,Barley,Maize,Buckwheat,Cornmeal,Oatmeal,
Other good sorces of complex carbs include pastas, brown rice, potatoes, other root veggies, brown bread, corn, yams, peas and many many more...
Complex carbs are good because the body is able to break it down over a longer period of time...in other words your body benefits from it longer... your dont get a sudden surge and then go flat an hour later when its all used up like with simple carbs...
simple carbs are good for right before and or right after your work out..whether thats cardio or weight training... it helps the body recover... by leveling out production of certain hormones... restoring energy to the muscles...... simple carbs include things like fresh fruit and veggies...
High protient diets can decrease the appetite...but if you are intrested in this you may want to get checked out by your doctor and see what he/she thinks.. it can cause some issues with the kidneys in some people..

Swimming is an excellent low impact cardio workout. (Ever notice how lithe a swimmers body is?) Also, try very light weight training; not enough to build muscle, but instead, tone what you have. Finally, you can always cheat. I may never have a hourglass figure (I am a mtf crossdresser), but a little padding here and a little tucking there does wonders. Good luck!
