dont know but thers a typ of dust called lime to make it less stinky.

not really sure,any type of dirt or gravel you put there is going to just turn to mud,maybe sand as it wont get muddy and tends to drain well,plus when it is dry the chickens will LOVE it as they can take dust bathes in it but it is kind of expensive...whatever you do DO NOT use shavings or sawdust it rots eventually and will cause a horrible smell made that mistake in my kennels

Also--dont forget to put gutters and drains so the roof doesnt dump water in their area. Divert any run-off water from surrounding soil. Elevate their area, by putting lots of fill so it is above the surrounding area. Cover part of their area for shade and to divert rainwater off, also.
There, that ought to do it. Now.... grab your shovel, hammer and nails and get busy!
