First is the caste system. Policians create, nurse and nurture their vote-banks keeping an eye towards the ensuing elections. Their prime motto is only winning the elections but not to do any kind of service to the society.
Second is the unseen object, God. In the name of God, we do all sorts of nasty things. If we turn the pages of World History, we come to know many wars are fought for the preservation of God and religion and struggle for supremacy of one religion over the other. No war is fought so far against illeracy, poverty and inhuman tendencies. In my opinion, caste and God are the two things that are marketed well by certain elements of our society. This is mostly relevant to India but much similarity in other forms are found in other countries.
