While I don't follow astrology that keenly I am really interested. My son is a Gemini and a lot that's said about the character of a Gemini applies to him, likewise my partner and his sign.
Whenever I read about mine, virtually nothing matches - am just intrigued

There is actually more to astrology than just looking up your star sign and reading the horoscope in a magazine or a tabloid. The real stuff involves a lot of plotting and calculation, since it involves the state of the heavens at the time and place of your birth.

If you go have your birth chart made by a professional astrologer, they will most likely ask for not only your birthdate, but also the time of your birth as well as the place of your birth. This is because time and location all affect such things as Ascendant, Midheaven, planets and the Houses in which they fall. Once the birth chart is drawn up, astrologers will usually look for key connections between all of those, which will often determine which personality traits are dominant.

Hence, if you think that your personality does not match the one described for Sagittarians, it may be that there are other factors in your birth chart that bring out different character traits in you that run contrary to that of a typical Sagittarian. Descriptions of character traits in magazines and the like are usually broad, which makes them inapplicable to some people. If you want an accurate astrological reading, it's best to consult a professional.

In astrology, the day you were born determines your Sun Sign. That's what makes you a Sagittarious and your son a Gemini. However, other planets and your rising sign give more detail about you specifially.

Like a fingerprint is individualized, so is astrology. If you're reading the local paper for answers, you have to realize that those are only generalizations based on the most basic unit of astrology. I'm sure no one believes there are only 12 types of people.

If you want more information on planetary positions, you can refer to an Ephemis or have your birth chart done. Some can be done pretty cheaply. You will need your time of birth, place and date.

If you're interest is more general, it may be easier for you to determine what your rising sign is and read that sign's horoscope instead. The rising sign is determined by the time of day you were born (ie what "sign" was on the horizon at your time of birth). You can check the web to find a program or site that will tell you what it is. (I'm sure it's out there).

If you ever hear a planet is in retrograde, it usually means something in your day will go buggy. For example, Mercury in retrograde usually means miscommunications, lost mail, etc.

Good luck to you.

It's very important that you have the correct birthdata. For an accurate horoscope you need your birth time, date, and location.
Sometimes, birthtimes aren't correctly recorded because of daylight saving, or changes might be made during wartime etc. or even forgetfulness by the recorder.

When a chart is erected from accurate data, then there are immediately around 1500 variables that can be assessed within the chart. If, for example the bright and jolly Sun sign of Sagittarius is negatively aspected by say Saturn, the serious planet of restriction and limitation, then the individual is more likely to be less frivolous than otherwise. Again, that would be modified further depending on where the configuration falls in the chart, and what other planets are in aspect. The influence of Neptune for example, in the first house of personality would "dilute" the Ascendant or rising sign, this tends to leave the individual with a lack of sense of identity and direction, not sure of who they are.

The many configurational variations of planets, points, elements, modes, qualities, aspects, houses etc, in a horoscope is endless. And that answers the old chestnut of "How can everybody in the world be categorised by just 12 zodiac signs?". We aren't. Every individual has their own horoscope, their own unique "snapshot in time" blueprint.

So, there may be some configuration in your chart which has a major effect on the presentation of your sun, moon or ascendant, which modifies your personality differently from what you would expect by just reading your Sun sign.

Horoscopes are written in such a way to generally apply to everyone. The *best* example I've seen on this was on a tabloid's cover, and every prediction for every sign was "You will gain money this month!", "There a check in your future", "$$$ for you!" and so on.

There's general vaguities that, when looked hard enough, you can say, "oh yeah, I guess that does apply to me". On top of that, not every horoscope goes off the same trait list, and while they may share some commonalities, if you look at another one, it will be completely different (save for just a statement or two).

Plus, horoscopes don't actually work. If they did, a great many more people would win the lottery... and more of those big Powerball ($100 million+) wins would be attributed to their horoscope (ironically, I haven't seen one yet, where they got it from a horoscope. I've always seen 'em as "personal numbers, like birthdays and anniversaries", and quickpicks).

I have personally observed people of different signs during the past 20 years or so and have found that there are exceptions also. Yours could be a case of such an exception.
By the way, is your partner an Aries ?.......just a curiosity..

I do not know, but maybe you were born on the cusp. That means that you are either at the beginning of the sign, or the end.

If that is the case, you supposedly can have the traits of the other sign you are near. Ex Scorpio or Cancer.

are you maybe born 'on the cusp' with another sign? In those circumstances, people have been know to show stronger attributes of those signs than the one they were born under. Though that should be nowhere near Gemini....

Because it's bullsh*t. Look up experiments done on astrology in Google.
People born similar dates don't share personality traits any more that people born months apart.

You'll have to find out what is your rising sign (according to the hour and your birth date).
Maybe it's more influential than you think.

Check out the link below.
If you register it will give you a free sample of your sign characteristics, numerology and much more.
I usually don't believe these sites but this one had it right for me.
Hope it helps!

I would have to guess that either your source is a scam or you're misplaced at birth, switched two times over and never mind. I think you just do not want to believe in the horoscope thus you don't see it apply to yourself HAHA
