I'm on disability, cannot afford a P.I.. This is causing massive chaos with my illness. I live in Northern Indiana if this helps. Any suggestions on who to contact that can help me will be most appreciated. I've already placed a "Lost" ad in the local newspapers.

Due to the high amount of auto theft and other crimes, the police do not have the time or resources to investigate every crime thoroughly. Auto theft falls under that category. They will list your vehicle as stolen, but they will not have a detective scouring the streets for it.

If you had full coverage insurance, contact your insurance company. Many times you are covered for the cost of a rental car, until your car is recovered and fixed, or the insurance company settles the claim.

One hint, call daily to see if they have found your car. A lot of times there is a delay in notifying the owner after a car is recovered. You have to pay the tow and storage charges, from the time of recovery, even if you are not notified for a week or more.

You are in an awful spot. I had a gun stolen and they weren't interested in looking for it either, and it was loaded. Most of the police are unbelievably lazy and incompetent. The "pigs" that came to my house didn't take any prints until I asked (three times), took two pictures of my house (not of were the thieves broke in either) and left. They called me a year later and asked if I had found my stolen firearm. Your only hope is to see it or a friend see it. We pay the police to work for us and they want us to do their job for them. I guess there are alot of doughnuts out there to get eaten. Instead of "to serve and protect" the side of their cars should display their true motto, "to swerve and neglect" Above all I wish you the best luck.
