The continents started off as pangea and they just shifted along with the tectonic plates. when things in big pieces break off into smaller pieces, they usually go from wider to narrower. try it with some glass. (or smoething not as sharp)

the pieces broke off going wide to narrow and hten they shifted into their spots. blame the plates.

I think all continents were just one land but due to climatic conditions and other calamity reasons these huge pieces of land got separated. So you can imagine tearing a piece of bread or something like that. Most of the pieces you will get would be broader on the top compared to the other side. What I think might not be the case; I am guessing this could be how these continents formed.

Great question!! A significant amount of the world's land mass is north of the equator and the further sounth you go, it mass seems to taper off. I know that plate tectonics are in some way related to activity in the planet's core, butI think that we won't know this answer until we know more about plate tectonics.

May be a result of Pangaea breaking process.
The crust would be narrow at the bottom because the south pole and wide at the upper part... because Pangaea was located near the equator... I guess...
You should need to do the cooling experiment... probably it works like this.

all continents exist as a super large continents called pangaea billions of yrs ago. due to cracks and convectional current of the magma, its slowly splited into diff continents. since de cracks and the nature determins the way pangaea is split, the general shape of the continents get wad it is today
