The term area 51 comes from early in nuclear experimentation. Maps of the Southwest were divided up into areas. One such area was near Groom Lake, Nevada and was labeled on these maps as area 51. The Lokheed Skunk Works are located here and it is where flight testing of secret aircraft are conducted. The U-2, SR-71 and F-117 all went through initial flight test at area 51.

area 51 is a nickname for one of the military bases in nevada (Air Force Flight Test Center, Detachment 3).

However, there are no dead aliens in there.

The rumors about aliens and ufos in the area near to that military base comes from the fact that it's a flight test center... so the us military uses it to flight test some of their weirdest aircraft designs... And some of them have been mistaken for ufos.

Area 51 purportedly didn't exist...but I know a number of people who have been there. It is in the Nevada desert...and I knew sub-contractors that had to go out there to do work. Yes, supposedly details or proof of Alien existence is there...but if there is any truth to it...it has long since been moved. I heard a fascinating story from an air force pilot once; that would curl the hair on your neck. Again...nothing was ever substantiated.

a dry lake bed that the CIA used in the 50s to test secret aircraft. they do lots of their new crap in scotland now. 51 is neat 'cause it isn't on any maps. it just says Restricted Area.

As for wher the aliens are...they probably have some secret underground base that never sees the light of day.

It is a highly secure area in Neveda, north/northeast of Las Vegas. No one knows who is really working out there becuase the government denies that it even exist. Consensus is that the USAF does alot of testing out there for highly classified planes, jets, and experimental aircraft. I think that is why people see very strnage stuff flying around out. Some people think we've actually got alien aircraft and technology out. Even others say we have 2 or 3 dead aliens from the Roswell incident.

I think we've just got some crazy, government air force people out there spending alot of our money on some crazy stuff. And they think if the masses found out they were spending billions on government toys we would all freak out. So they keep it highly secure and secretive to make us think they're hiding something.

According to certain people, this Area 51 is connected to extra-terrestrial research and experimental place for projects related to SETI. Some say that this place was created by NASA during the late 1950's and they store machines that employ anti-gravitational propulsion. I was near there this summer. It's in New Mexico near Roswell. The famous Roswell ufo sighting. The government immediately closed the area and it was closed off to the public for decades. then they said it was just a weather baloon. who knows. But Roswell is alien crazy. Even their streetlights have aliens on them
