and perhaps we lived long ago
could it be possible that there was technology long ago that rivaled ours today?
do you think that any technology has been hidden from us, that was descovered long ago?

Yes I have always believed the planet takes care of itself. At the present time we are worried about global warming, science shows than ice ages can happen very fast. A lot like the movie about it not very long ago. A million years is nothing to the planet but our oldest man made artifacts are only a few thousand years old. Like Kansas says we and everything we do are dust in the wind. If we were to cease to exist today in 50000 years it would be hard to tell we were ever here.

Lost technologies are also a fact, archeology are digging odd things up all over the world.

Over the last few decades, miners in South Africa have been digging up mysterious metal spheres. Two types of spheres have been found: one is composed of a solid bluish metal with flecks of white; the other is hollowed out and filled with a spongy white substance. The kicker is that the rock in which they where found is Precambrian - and dated to 2.8 billion years old! Who made them and for what purpose is unknown.

In 1938, an archeological expedition led by Dr. Chi Pu Tei into the Baian-Kara-Ula mountains of China made an astonishing discovery in some caves that had apparently been occupied by some ancient culture. Buried in the dust of ages on the cave floor were hundreds of stone disks. Measuring about nine inches in diameter, each had a circle cut into the center and was etched with a spiral groove, making it look for all the world like some ancient phonograph record some 10,000 to 12,000 years old. The spiral groove, it turns out, is actually composed of tiny hieroglyphics that tell the incredible story of spaceships from some distant world that crash-landed in the mountains. The ships were piloted by people who called themselves the Dropa.

The Antikythera Mechanism
A perplexing artifact was recovered by sponge-divers from a shipwreck in 1900 off the coast of Antikythera, a small island that lies northwest of Crete. Gearing of this complexity was not known to exist until 1575! It is still unknown who constructed this amazing instrument 2,000 years ago or how the technology was lost.

The Baghdad Battery
Today batteries can be found in any grocery, drug, convenience and department store you come across. Well, here's a battery that's 2,000 years old!

The Coso Artifact
While mineral hunting in the mountains of California near Olancha during the winter of 1961, Wallace Lane, Virginia Maxey and Mike Mikesell found a rock. In the center was a shaft of shiny metal. Experts estimated that, if this was a geode, it should have taken about 500,000 years for this fossil-encrusted nodule to form, yet the object inside was obviously of sophisticated human manufacture. Further investigation revealed that the porcelain was surround by a hexagonal casing, and an x-ray revealed a tiny spring at one end, like a spark plug.

A fossil of a human handprint, for example, was found in limestone estimated to be 110 million years old. What appears to be a fossilized human finger found in the Canadian Arctic also dates back 100 to 110 million years ago. And what appears to be the fossil of a human footprint, possibly wearing a sandal, was found near Delta, Utah in a shale deposit estimated to be 300 million to 600 million years old.

Humans were not even around 65 million years ago, never mind people who could work metal. So then how does science explain semi-ovoid metallic tubes dug out of 65-million-year-old Cretaceous chalk in France? In 1885, a block of coal was broken open to find a metal cube obviously worked by intelligent hands. In 1912, employees at an electric plant broke apart a large chunk of coal out of which fell an iron pot! A nail was found embedded in a sandstone block from the Mesozoic Era.

One of the most prodigious lava flow in the history of the world occurred in the Pacific Northwest. The lava spread over an estimated 200,000 square miles in depths up to 5,000 feet. In 1972, a competent geologist stated that the eruptions took place a mere fifteen million years ago. One ancient shaft was drilled 210 feet down into solid rock. An altar for worship was found there. Other finds include the following: a mortar for grinding gold ore at a depth of 300 feet in a mining tunnel, a mortar and pestle weighing 30 pounds, beads, perforated stones, a 40-pound oval granite dish. One human skull was found at a depth of 130 feet under five beds of lava and tufa separated by layers of gravel. Man came before the lava flowed, and deep canyons have been cut by rivers since the lava spread. An amazing number of stone relics have been found. The finding are almost always in gold-bearing rock or gravels.

This is just a small part of what has been found, I'll leave links to them if you want to see more.

Not I.
What mechanism would be at play to "cleanse" earth?
I do not believe that there was technology rivaling ours before. We have geosynchrone satellites by the truckload, those satellites will remain in space for billion of years before their orbit decays, as they are orbiting almost 1/10 of the distance to the moon. That orbit is actually getting so crowded that new satellites have a small rocket attached so they can be moved to a slightly different orbit after they start developing problems or become obsolete to make room in the valuable geosynchrone orbit itself. Space agencies track satellites to avoid collision in space; any satellites that would have been from another era 50000 years or more in the past would have already been noticed long time ago.
As for technology hidden from us, the simple question would be why and how?
If it is hidden from us, then you would not see it, so where is any clue that such a technology ever existed in the first place? Second, you can ask yourself, why would ancient hide their technology from future civilizations? Were they planning on disappearing and thinking about playing tricks on future generation? Do you see anyone presently hiding away the technology on how to make computers and cars and nuclear power plant so that if we were to disappear, no one would know we had it? Do you see ourselves, in the event we found out we are about to be wiped out, going out and destroying all the libraries so that no science and technology book would ever be found?

I mean, look how much stuff we leave around. We have mines that are literally miles in size, huge craters. We have pipelines and cables and wires everywhere. We have subway tunnels, roads, bridges; stuff that is designed to survive for thousands of years in working condition, and therefore will survive millions of years as recognizable debris. We dig around and find tiny dinosaurs bones bits; don't you think that we'd also find traces of ancient advanced technological civilizations if there were?

As for Erich von Daniken, I can only say that he has made himself very rich *inventing* fake sutff to sell books. None of his theories and claims hold any truth. Some people believe him because he is good at lying.

This theory has been explored before, they say they found things at inca sites which prove space rockets etc. I dont have an opinion but I love the idea that this beautiful planet which is so disrespected has the ability to cleanse itself of all the parasites and start over. Oh the author im thinking of is eric van donagen (not sure of the spelling) but he explores this theory in great depth

Did you know that every 7 years we regenerate and replace every single cell in our bodies? Think about it. Change is the only true constant. Except for maybe life, love and spirit. Of course it's all related anyway.
