haha!!!! many are getting my question wrongly....not being debauch is NOT wearing burkhas n all
also, many ppl are thinking they are OPEN in the west instead. being morally corrupt (drugs, fornication, porn, etc.) doesn't mean tht ur smart and open, it just means tht ur STUPID n CHEAP. and i pity such ppl!!!!
in other parts of the world also ppl are free to walk down the streets, do whatever they want (except of course some muslim countries). freedom is there, but tht doesn't neccessarily mean being morally nil. with whatever gr8 advancement in ur country, a certain level of dignity shud always be maintained.

PPL IN THE WEST HAVE ALL RUBBISH PERCEPTIONS ABT EASTERNERS (they think these ppl are in the 17th or 18th centuries)
also, in many eastern countries all matters (eg, sex, drugs) are discussed so openly and EDUCATIVELY tht ppl, esp, the teens and all KNOW what is right 4 them.
i do agree tht most problems are universal. corruption, for eg, is inescapable. but some problems like adultery n porn n drugs are lesser in the eastern countries.

Its no worse than anywhere else... Just in the East its all done behind closed doors.... In Africa, well the rest of the world honestly doesnt care so it doesnt get reported to the same extent... In the Middle East there is a lot of censorship so news of it isnt available to the common person.

It depends how you perceive it.
I agree with you - debauchery is prevalent in the West. You could argue that a lack of a moral education / lack of religion / lack of a hierarchy of good and bad is missing in the West.
But I know for sure that in the Middle East, the 'debauchery' is ever prevalent despite being less publicised etc. Sometimes I think it is alittle worse in certain places such as Kashmir(where I am from) because people preach to behave in a certain manner and criticise the West for their behaviour but in essence their behaviour is exactly the same if not worse.
There was one example in Kashmir - where a beauty parlour was being used as a brothel. The main beautician was drugging girls desperate for money and then trapping them into the sex industry. By recording their sexual grievances they were used to manipulate the young girls. Eventually after months and months the media shed light on it. It turned out that many many ministers were involved. As a result, the situation is now in legal hands but even there, there is an element of corruption. Currently they are trying to bring in judge from outside Kashmir to keep it as unbiased as possible.
My point is there is debauchery, corruption, manipulation and blackmail everywhere. It is not the country, continent or geographical spectrum that makes the person/people behave in such a way. It is the people themselves.
Hey you said, "...but some problems like adultery n porn n drugs are lesser in the eastern countries..."
I completely disagree here -for example adultery is prevalent in eastern countries as much as it is in the west. The same for porn. What you have to ask yourself when making such statements is what are you basing your information on? ! people can get offended if rash statements that are completely unfounded. If it's an assumption then make it clear - your assumptions are not based on any figures/fact. Don't forget there is a sources section when you type your comments if you want us to refer to anything...
Well done on asking such an electric question though!

I believe the world in general is steeped in debauchery. Only the West has more economic means to wallow in deeper pools of it, rather than say, India.
That being said, why are SO many Indians living abroad, rather than returning to help their beleaguered nation improve itself? India--after all--IS the world's largest democracy. This puzzles me, because I see a giant trend where educated Indians flock to the West to pursue higher education, complete their degree, and never return back to India. Why is this?
Is it because Indians only want 'what is best' for themselves and their families? If this is so, then it follows that 'what is best' is to be living in the West. But, then this also means educated Indians must be attracted to excessive debauchery, as your question implies that this problem is 'SPECIALLY' (sic) acute in the West.
With the British granting India independence in 1947, it seems as though India struggles to make economic and democratic progress on its own. Instead, India continues looking toward the 'degenerate' West to provide those midnight telecommunications jobs and a pathway to riches and better living. India chooses this path, while keeping a underground caste system in place, neglecting the rural poor, refusing to meet the challenge of public health, and by oppressing women and children throughout Indian society.
It is sad that your question does not illuminate the linkages between the West with the success of modern India. It is also sad that many Indians leave India--never to return--after having lived (or studied) in the West.
I guess excessive debauchery is corrupting even the highest Brahmin! If you still doubt this fact, click on the link below. Read the article from the July 2nd, 2006 edition of the english language Times of India.

It only seems that way because we talk about it and openly condemn it.
The eastern cultures (generally) deal with their "debauched" citizenry by executing them in secret or through institutionalized ostracism.
Also, "debauchery" is a subjective term. What the West considers to be in many cases harmless entertainment or freedom of expression, is often looked upon as "debauchery" by some Eastern cultures.
Many Easterners consider a women who has an education or a career to be debauchery, for example.

I suspect that it only seems that way because of the fact that governments in the West don't typically regulate morality. This allows people the freedom to be openly debauched whereas those in other parts of the world have to practice their debauchery behind closed doors.

If other places were examined under a microscope, like the west, they too would look like a cesspool. For whatever reason, we are put under the worst kind of scrutiny...usually by people who are unfair, over-generalize, and make uneducated ASsumptions with little information....kind of like you. Do yourself, and the rest of us a favor and shut up until you have educated yourself.

In some parts of the East, they chop people's heads and stone folk to death. Does that not count as debauchery?

In the west, it is openly discussed. In the east, it is as earnestly practised, but Seldom accepted/discussed.

It's all a matter of perception. I think you're probably too prude and/or morally conservative. If you don't like it, go to Saudi Arabia and wear a burka.
