I am guessing you mean Indias former Prime Minster Mahatma Ghandi. The principles you list were not his, but Hindu teachings.

You need to bear in mind that India is one of the most conquered and occupied countries on the planet. It also suffers from over-population and experiences frequent famines because they have not developed sufficient agriculture, nor do they eat the numerous cattle that abound there. They provide little to the rest of the world. Thier chief export is students to U.S. Medical Schools, and MDs after they graduate. 2nd is Engineering grads.

Is it possible for governments to exercise peace, simplicity and non-violence in todays world?.....Absolutely.

Yes, it can be done. As a matter of fact Gandhi is one of the people that Martin Luther King Jr. admired and he did the non violence act when they were being beaten for marching.

Non violence is more powerful than violence because our first instinct is to fight back and to fight back with peace takes more strength.

not against islamic fundamentalists who are hell-bent on killing others. people need to learn that there is a time for peace and a time for violence. peaceful people cannot communicate wi th violent people. they are seen as weak and will not be listened to. the only ones who can control violent people are other violent people. it's sad, but it's the way the world works.

gandhi's times were not so different from our own, but biographer's of gandhi find fault in the man, himself (he abused his wife, for instance, and slept - i did not say, "have sex with", but who was watching? - with beautiful underaged girls, "to test his chastity". still, no one's perfect, and one can always strive to uphold their beliefs, whatever they are.
