Imagine you've committed armed robbery, and stole £20,000. You've been caught, but for someone reason the judge has let you out on bail. They've confiscated your passport.

You're young, you're scared of prison, you're looking at at least 5 years and you've got 20 grand. What would you do? Where would you go?

This is hypothetical, I'm not on the run.
(and if you're a born-again, please don't start bleating on about how I'm going to hell etc.)

£20,000 isn't a great amount but I've seen programmes where undercover reporters have bought passports for £500 (a bargain) and they were good enough fakes to buy a house with & fly abroad.

Shave your head or buy a wig, get a fake passport and set up life somewhere else - Italy would be my choice. Get a nose job or something, get a job and set up home.

If Hannibal Lecter can do it, then so can you!

For £20k you could get to the Costa Del Crime, but you wouldn't have that much to live on.

I reckon it would be best to find someone you trust LOADS to get the money into a high interest account (I'm thinking some sort of money laundering would be required here) and then do everything the solicitor tells you to get the shortest sentance, knowing that you've got a little nest egg when you get out.

The only option is to use the £20k to hire yourself the best brief in the business. With a kickass criminal QC behind you you're a chance for a very short term or even a suspended sentence - much better than either keeping the cash and living on the lam on £20k for 7 years 'til statute of limitations kicks in, or keeping the £20k and doing your time only to come out damaged to a world where £20k is worth about £10k in today's money.

20,000 isn't all that much.. yes jail would be hard.. but I think it would be harder trying to live on 20,000 for 5 years on the run..
