Helen Keller, but she didn't just educate herself. Ann Sullivan was her teacher, and had to help her read the books that weren't in Braille, and spell lectures into her hand (they used a method where Ann would put her hand into Helen's and spell out the words using sign language, so Helen could feel and understand the words). At first there were some accusations that it was really just a trick by Ann, but they soon saw that Helen was truly intelligent, and learning her lessons on her own. The stress of helping Helen almost destroyed Ann, though. She had always had weak eyesight, and the strain of reading to her weakened it even further, so that she almost went blind.
