By definition, one liter equals 1000 cubic centimeters.

Converting decimeters, a cubic decimeter = 10 x10 x10 centimeters, or 1000 cubic centimeters.

Therefore both are equal.

Firstly, 1000 liters = 1 cubic meter
Now, 1 decimeter = 1/10 meter
Hence 1 cubic decimeter = 1/1000 cubic meter
So 1 decimeter = 1 liter

I am not sure, but I think thats what it is!

A liter is 1000 cubic centimeters.
A decimeter is 10 centimeters on a side, so a dm^3 is 10x10x10cm or 1000 cc's.
