Continental drift alters the positions and shapes of CONTINENTS not spits of land like Italy. Otherwise it would be called Italian Drift wouldn't it?.
Any marine country's shape is due to the current sea-level, following a sea-level rise of 450 feet since the last ice-age ended; thus the boot-shape of Italy is a coincidence of the shape of land above current sea-level.
If the sea-level were to fall to what it was only 15,000 years ago Italy and all other marine countries would be totally different shapes.

It is a geographic phenomenon. May be because of this the boot (shoe) industry is no. 1 in the World and Italy is famous for its innovative designs in shoes, ballerinas, mocassins, etc. Almost all the leading shoe designers of the World hail from Italy.

Because the Apennine mountain range which traverses the entire peninsula is shaped like a boot, and the coast line is almost precisely parallel with the mountains.
