Guinea pigs are nervous creatures at the best of times but persistence in handling them pays dividends. Take them a treat in the form of fresh green when you go out to handle them and they will usually come to you for it, they then learn that if they come when they hear you coming to the hutch they get a reward. Try whistleing like they do as you approach the hutch and they will not be as frightened. Allways do every thing calmley never panic, if you are nervous the animal will be nervous as well. Be confident when you take hold of any pig so that they feel safe and will not wriggle. Try to supprt thier legs when you are carrying them about, they do not feel safe if their legs are dangling in mid air and not on something solid. Do all this regulary and they should calm down in a couple of weeks.I have kept pigs for nearly 50 years and now sell them in my pet store.
Care sheets are available for free on my web site.

Guinea pigs can be nervous and never appear like they want to be held. But a guinea pig that is a single pig in a cage will bond with a human. Hold it every day, I always held it in a small towel and fed it treats as I held it. Gently scratch its head and little body. My guinea pig over time loved to lay on my shoulder for quite some time. They even learn to not use the bathroom while you hold them. Just pay attention because if they sleep on you while you watch TV and then start to get active, then they have to go. My guinea pigs would actually lick me. If you have more than one pig, it will bond with the other pig in the cage. You can even have a small carrier and take it places with you. But be responsible and make sure it has a clean space with plenty of food and water. They are a wonderful little creature and great 1st pets for a little one. My niece's pig would hop from you to my niece if you were holding it and she sat down. It just loved her!

hi there,
i own 32 guinea pigs so i know how it feels to be not loved by a most friendly animal, when my new guinea pigs come home i usually have to break the habit of being shy for most guinea pigs are shy when its their first appearance,to make sure your guinea pigs love you more you can start off by feeding them a carrot a day along with their daily feedings when the guinea pig has learnt you are safe to be around give it alot of attention but be care full you don't want to overwhelm it just give it about one to two hours a day if you can that way your guinea pigs are sure to love you more and make sure you give it fresh water everyday even if it looks clean because it really is not clean,

thanks for listening i hope this helps your question.

Guinea pigs love attention. They might run away if you try to pick them up, but with most guinea pigs they will let you hold them and allow you to cuddle them once they are in your arms. They like to feel secure, so holding them in a way that won't make them feel like falling, will make them love being held by you. If your guinea pig starts to squeak as you pet it, that means they're happy! Guinea pigs, like any animal.. love to eat. Feeding him/her foods they like will make them adore you. They love oranges, lettuce, apples, and anything that contains Vitamin C. If you want them to be happy and healthy, feed them Timothy hay. Any fresh vegetable or fruit will make them love you more than they already do =]

Oh, and they are very curious creatures... So let them explore parts of your room if you'd like. Make sure they don't chew on anything important or dangerous though. Exploring keeps them exercised and healthy as well.
