It's really strange and I have friends that live there. Basically Taiwan doesn't need china. The only reason China doesn't let Taiwan go is because then everyone else like Hong Kong and Tibet will want out too. China has threatened to throw down if Taiwan gets cute about it. Taiwan would rather not call China's bluff even if the US says they have Taiwan's side.

Nobody likes to see a neighbor threaten them....
With North Korea being a wild card in the region with its talk about nuclear armament, I think the relationship between China and Taiwan will become more formidable in the future...

I think the people of Taiwan just want too live in peace....to were as the government of mainland china want too see Taiwan assimilated back into china and its government destroyed.....
A brief message too the Chinese Government in Beijing... The government of Taiwan is the rightful leaders of China....

Honestly I think its a case of Goliath vs David but there have been many views expressed by people.
