the absolute worst table i ever had, and i think it was the reason i got out of foodservice was, and i gave everyone the best service as my tips showed. this one family came in, brought food from another restaurant for their brat kids, i informed the manager and she told them that in that state it was illegal to bring food in from outside of the establishment, but since the raunchy little sprogs werer already feating on their chiken chunks and fries and having a food fight in the process, the parent decided that they were going to have ice water with lemon, well, the lemon made thier water "cloudy", they shared an appetizer(no biggie), except that they felt they should have gotten 2 appetizers(considering after they scarfed down the app that was enough to feed 4 people, and their water was "cloudy" from the lemon, thus the reason for the 2nd ap*on the house of course...right BWAHAHAHA*. they "shared" salad bar, of which i had to charge for 2 salad bars because we had a "no sharing salad bar" policy.
they ordered their entree, note....not "entrees", but entree, an 8 ounce ribeye, cooked "extra well done on end "end" of it, and medium rare on the other, and dont cut it to cook it like that, they wanted to cut it themselves*rolling eyes*. they shared a twice baked potato, but no cheese on 1/2 of it, and no bacon bits on the other half.
dessert for all 4....cheesecake, the brats decided it would be more fun to *catapult* chunks of cheesecake across the dining rom and then run to where it landed and mash it into the carpet, while "mom and dad" moaned and groaned about how delicious the cheescake was, all the while griping and complainig about the coffee being "hot"...imagine...hot coffee...whats next....wet water?
anyway, as the family from hell "camped out" at my table, making my evening a living hell as well as the other guests seated around them(i should have charged them rent),
they finally decided to leave...dad went to the restroom, mom and the offspring went to the car, mom told the hostess to inform me that she left the check on table, and the husband would pay me after he came out of the restroom, can you believe the tightwad was trying to stiff me on the whole check? it totaled about $40.00($12.00/cheesecake, $7.00/app, $3.00/coffee, $18.00/dinner+extra salad bar).
caught him in the parking lot almost to his car, he stammered and stuttered saying his wife was going to pay it blah blah blah,.
then he disputed the charges, i got my manager, and she showed him the menu again and pointed out the prices, then had the "nads" to argue about how expensive the place was etc etc etc.
he was so pised he trew a wad of money at her, jumped in his car and sped off. when she counted the money, there was $38.00. so not only was my night a living hell after that, i got stiffed on tip as well.
as far as "minimum tip" we always leave at least 20%.

Well, I was going to gripe about some of the tables I had in the past, but after reading daddysboicub's answer, I decided that I no longer have any room to talk. Sorry to hear about your horrible experience, daddysboicub. I feel your pain.
By the way, I got out of the food service industry, too.

certain families do not keep reigns on their kids and the kids go nuts, spilling drinks, dropping food, running around
minimum tip should be 2% but average tip should be 15%
