I have noticed at times, orange butterflies on the coriopsis that is yellow or orange colored, in the garden.

I wouldn´t call that a tendency, but mimetism (camouflage) is a common behaviour in nature, and that could be what you are seeing in your garden. Check out if these butterflies have any major predators among the enviroment of your garden.

good question, I don't have the answer. But, I recently learned that they need to be 95 degrees for flight.

Well according to the article I digged up it seems that they are partially colour blind so I don't think the colour really matters to them
