Depends on what you believe in. If it's a religious matter, history would say : YES. If there is a philosophical matter, or just a point of view about anything, 2 civilized persons should not reach to a level of violence. Once again, your question is not concise, and i can't give you a straight answer.

It's like saying 'mothers give birth to murderers.' No mother gives birth to a 'murderer'. They all give birth to children who later metamorphose into a murderous being.
Very similarly, believing does not cause violence. If we do not believe, we do not live. Belief is what keeps us alive. Belief is what keeps us sane. Belief is what keeps us human. Disbelief in everything would result in various insecurities, psychological problems and possibly, madness.
Belief does not 'cause' violence. This is where 'tolerance' comes into picture. To tolerate other beliefs. Not to be a bigot. Following bigotry is a primary reason for violence. Not 'belief' alone.
I hope it is clearer now.

Believing without doubt makes you a comfortable personality. Forcing your beliefs on someone makes you a weak personality.
Violence is caused by weak personalities.

Yes, because with nothing to back it up, like real evidence and critical thinking, you're reduced to fighting to force your beliefs on others. Religion takes advantage of the defense mechanism called denial. I am scared so I will hide. Either behind daddy when you're small or god when you're big.

Sure. But without belief (of one kind or another), our lives would be somewhat impoverished – maybe even meaningless.
