Yes--by the proposed definition, it's a planet. It's mass is large enough for it's own gravity to pull it into a shere, and it orbits a star, and is not a star itself. However, it's a twin planet. Rather than having a moon, Pluto and it's twin orbit around a point above the surface of Pluto.

(This is not a done deal--but this would be the result if the proposed defintion is accepted.)

Some astronomer's conference is taking place soon and they were considering demoting Pluto, but it seems like it will remain on the official planet list.

The weird thing is that they may declare 3 other bodies to be planets - including the asteroid Ceres and Charon, which has been recognized as Pluto's satellite for years.

Yes! Pluto is considered as a planet. Yet certain people consider it as a Kuiper belt object. There is a big debate going on whether to consider Xena(2003 UB 313) as a planet or a Kuiper belt object.

It shouldn't be. It's an Ort Cloud object, moon or not. I think the definition of 'planet' should include the distance from the host star. Pluto's a piece of frozen junk.

The IAU is still thinking about it. They hope to have a decision by the end of the month. The current favorite proposal would have it remaining a planet, and adding several others.
