Best thing I've found is any gel containing aloe. Apply frequently and it will help the pain. Unfortunately your sunburn is still going to itch until it peels. Taking Benadryl might help the itching.

take aspirin or ibuprofen for the pain 3x day . put aloe on it, and take a warm but not hot shower... the mild heat brings blood to the area to help it heal.
reapply the aloe frequently.

Apply aloe vera! Buy from the mart and then put in the fridge.
It's cheap!

use a good lotion (ex.-not just a good smelling one, but one that is actually good) or you could put some aloe vera on it.
