well basically if you use an SLR (single-lens reflex) camere for example A Canon EOS500 like mine with a 500 or 750 mm tele-photo lens and have the camera set to a hig shutter speed else you wont catch the planes in focus. although auto focus is normally quicker it will be hard to focus on an objuct so far away going so fast automatically i would advise practicing the manual focusing technique to achieve greater results. also if it is possibly (it may not be) try and take the pictures so the sun is behind you else the planes will often ecome silhouetted which can be a powerful effect in certain areas of photography but i don't feel it is suited to photgraphing planes at an air show.

Depends how serious you want to be. There are some very good digital SLRs available how from mainly Canon which won't cost you an arm and a leg. Although different lens will bump up the price. But generally buy on the Internet as it is a lot cheaper than any high street stores.

All the above with an option of a tracking focus - tracks your object and is a common feature. Also as there will be lots of once only opportunities it would be a good idea to have that feature where you can take a whole load of shots in quick succession at the same time (forget the actual name of it - continuous shuttering or something like that).

Most camera will do it however if you want to get close up shots then you will need telephoto lens with a fast shutter speed and also a tripod or at least anti shudder

Any camera will do really -

I would go for one with a fairly large optical zoom so you can zoom in on the planes as you will be fairly far away from them I guess,

Also, for for digital as this will allow you to preview your shots and delete any that you do not like allowing you to take more when you are there.

slr w/ wide angle lens to get clear, less miss shots.

if you don't have, try any digi cam with shutter speed adjustment coz you need a quick capture so you need fast shutter at least 1/500s and above.
