US experts claim it's only a matter of time before terrorsts build and plant a nuclear bomb inside the borders of the US - do you think it's likely and where do you think they would hit?

Would it be three or four simitanesous strikes and would that take out the majority of people ?

Since the US has a lot of nukes in the ground (waiting to be launched) do you think that could be used against the Americans ? For instance if a terror cel detonated a nuke right beside a silo wouldn't that end up being the equivilant of 2 bombs for the price of one?

How long do you think America the radio active could survive ?

Would the UN have to go rescue them ?

Some pin heads would call this a very stupid question, and others would dismiss it as "impossible". the was the thinking when the so-called terrorist were trying to level the Twin Towers. Never under estimate what true passion can do. Was there for a short time a one-armed pro baseball player, or semi-pro player? Who would have bet on that? What scares people most is that they will get a taste of what Hiroshima and Nagasaki got. And when it does happen here, the economy would be in ruins(just take a look back at what 9/11 did?) And Uncle Sam would launch WW III. He will hit Syria or Iran, or both(maybe throw in N. Korea for good measure) because just has the Taliban was hit. SOMEONE would have to be hit back so the White House can save face and just out of sheer vengeance being pissed off by being sucker punched. The US is great for invading the air space of other nations and carrying out strikes, but not so good when it is done to it.

This is an open ended theoretical question. Yes Muslim wackos want nuclear devices and will probably use them at the first chance they get. The two most likely scenarios is to smuggle one in across the border and detonate it in a major city. Or more likely bring into the harbor of a major coastal city hidden in a ship and detonate it in the harbor. Making a nuclear device is simple in theory but difficult in engineering. Making a reliable delivery system like a missile is even harder. However given time the muslim wackos with help from others like North Korea will have
what they need to attack us. And when they feel they have a reasonable degree of certainty that they can successfully attack us they will do so. They do not care if we kill them in retaliation.
As long as Americans die muslim wackos think they win.
Our only hope is to have an adequate missile defense system
for the higher tech threats and a very robust intelligence capablity to try and stop the low tech smuggling efforts. The problem is we have to be lucky and stop the attacks 100% of the time. The terrorists only need to be lucky once to succeed.

And detonating a nuclear device near a missile silo would have little effect on the size of the burst. It may make the silo inoperable but most silos are very hardened. It is far more likely that attacks will go after soft civilian targets for maximum effect, not wasted on remote military targets.

I think they will be able to detonate a dirty bomb--which doesn't pack the nuclear punch as a regular nuclear device--but it will cause damage--especially if it is detonated in a densly populated area.

Now, if a country with legitimate nuclear capabilities decided to sent a nuke our way, our nukes would be in the air in retaliation quicker than you can say "Jimmy Carter grew peanuts." Now I know complete whack jobs like Jung Il and the leader of Iran wouldn't hesitate to launch, or give a rat's *** if their country was wiped out in the process. The thing is, you have to detonate quite a few nuclear bombs in the US to take us out completely--smaller countries can be wiped out completely by our bombs. Do they want to risk that? Not completely sure.

It would be very difficult for terrorists to invade the military and gain access to the silos. Blowing them up instead of humans? Not on a terrorists agenda. They don't care if we take them out--their primary responsibility is to take us out. They blow themselves up along with our people--why would they care to annhilate machinery over people?

The kind of radioactivity that would kill like what happened to Japan in WW2--most countries who have rogue leaders who hate us--they don't have the capability yet. The North Koreans don't have a working missle yet with the range to reach our coasts. Yet. Iran---I think they would be happy enough to use their nukes to take our Israel. They don't need long range missles for that.

Would the UN resuce America in the event of a nuclear attack? I would think they would help out--yes. That is part of what they do when countries are attacked. But then, by the time these countries have the capability to legitimately attack us, who knows if the UN will still be there.

yes, I think it will happen eventually maybe even next week on the 22nd of august. Nuke sites ae pretty well guarded and in hardened silos.
I think it depends on what time of fissionable material is used in the nuke.
No the UN couldn't rescue a cat up a tree. We would have to fend for ourselves. I think the US might send a nuke or two to Mecca just to have the last laugh since Muslim countries failed to police their own.

Ridiculous.

A nuke is not a pocket toy and even suitcase nukes are hard to smuggle. Plus not VERY available either.

With vigilance much potential can be shunted to near zero.

More likely poison gas though. Remember Aum Shinrikyo in Tokyo. I'm sure the flakes are watched.

I would suspect that the goal would be three separate but simultaneous strikes on the east west and in the middle . This would take out the water supply and the escape routes so that there would be no safe retreat for the American people.

The Americans would likely strike Iran but it would be irrelevant to do so - the remaining public of the US would be unsavable and die slowly of radiation poisoning or at the very least have weird babies for a 25 generations or so .

I would be the end of them and their country would be unusable for decades and decades

To nuke a country is an honour that only USA feels proud of.
It is otherwise inhuman.
Therefore not that the terrorists will do it, anyone who does it, is the BIGGEST TERRORIST.
Who has done it so far?
The Biggest Terrorist of the world has done it and has the potentials to do it again as a preemptive strike......... as they call it.

Are you the stupidest person on Yahoo Answers? The more I read your questions, the more I realize that you are officially the single stupidest person on this website.
Congratulations, you should get a trophy. Noone else has ever been as stupid as you. That is quite an accomplishment, unfortunately you shouldn't be proud of it.
Go talk to your mommy and tell her you want to go back to elementary school because you are too stupid to be in big kid school.

No! Never!
Except if they (our rulers) decide they have to do it themselves, in order to direct the public (us) towards a certain direction (which fits their plans), to continue and extend their rein! (See 911)
