As long as they are cleaned before and after use, they will not cause an infection. The only way they will cause an irritation is if they are not lubed enough for the hole they are going into.
There is a cancer that is caused by a virus in the cervix but only if there is an infection first.
It is NOT caused by toys.
There is no side effect to using toys except the smile on your face...

Do some research, different toys are made with different materials. Some are porous and can soak up. Ordinary soap will not get them clean. Glass and metal clean up very well. Some kinds of materials, like the jelly ones, must be cleaned very carefully. Best bet, put a condom over them, cheap and safe.

I'm not a Doctor, but I use sex toys all the time. They are perfectly safe as long as you wash them between uses. They are much safer than having intercourse with another person you don't know.
