Be an independent!! You do not have to label yourself, or register with a party, just be registered to vote. Then you can vote for whomever you believe has your best interests at heart, and believes the way you do.
The sad part, is they all become politicians, and give into lobbyist and the all mighty dollar. The system needs to be changed. That is what Ross Perot was trying to do, but wasn't necessarily the person to do it.
Great question, good thinking, and stay true to yourself, regardless of what every body tells you. You will know in your heart was is right and wrong. Be well.

You sound like most real Americans who have the same dilemma , you are a conservative morally to the extent you feel abortion is wrong .This is because you have an inner voice that tells you this .LISTEN to the voice it will never steer you wrong .
THE tax cuts are good if you believe it will stimulate the economy and trickle down to the little guy .
THIS is not however the case ,we all know that , this only creates more money in the service industry low paying jobs with no future .
These are not the good jobs that Americans want or need to build stable futures to raise a family .
Government employment is OK if you like punching a clock for 20 years and enjoy mediocrity . you give up your freedom and always vote your paycheck then for 20 years .
I think you are a realist like alto of people who know what the want and are not shy about getting it .
THIS makes it hard for you to choose a party in part because you see the good and bad the two sides seem to offer .
The independent party is gaining a voice slowly in American politics and it is this party which may offer you the best of both worlds .
YOU can not have all your wishes meet by the democrats or republicans so maybe independent is the way to go .
I hope the future finds more people in this middle area with a politician who will represent the wishes of the people who elected him/her to office and do the right thing by the people they represent .
GOOD luck with your extremely difficult decision

Yes...it's called the "Radical Middle". In other words, you don't agree with the more extreme positions of the established parties.
Because of the "Big Sort" (Republicans becoming more right of center, Democrats more left) there is little room for a middle ground in either party right now. You could be considered a moderate Republican, or a conservative Democrat....but in either case you might be out in the cold when your party friends press you on your stand on certain issues (esp. if you are running for or holding office.)
Of course, you could end run around the problem by declaring as an Independent (hey, it's a free country!). There is also the Libertarian Party, which tends to be in favor of individual liberty (as long as it doesn't infringe on others rights).
Here's a little test to take to see where you fit in...it's not foolproof, but it may help show you where you stand.

Sounds like you're a lot like me - a political independent. As far as I'm concerned (and you may or may not agree with me) the whole two-party system is something of an illusion. No one point of view can be correct, because no person can know everything. Ergo no political party's view can be correct, because the members of that party, while perhaps agreeing on a particular agenda, lack the information necessary to back up that agenda.
In other words, think for yourself. Don't let a political platform dictate your beliefs and ideals. Don't let biased reporters or radio talk show hosts tell you the "truth" - the real truth is what you make of it.
No one - whatever their ideological persuasion - can give you the so-called "truth." You have to figure that out on your own.

You sound intelligent. People that vote strictly one party or the other without regard to the stance or the issues of the candidate are not doing this country any favors. They will not hold their own candidate accountable. You see it on Yahoo answers all the time. People that think Clinton or Bush were perfect. They have both done good things and made mistakes. Stay independent

One of the things we enjoy about American politics is the insistence that there are only two points of view. If the world of commerce was like American politics, we would only have chocolate and vanilla, right and wrong, black and white. Political views, like ideas, opinions and emotions, are part of an infinite continuum. Your neighbor to the north, for example, has several national political parties representing different points of view. Italian politics is known for its diverse political parties. Of course, it doesn't help that you have a President who believes individuals are either 'with us or against us'. The world, and its problems, is not that simple. The fact Americans attach blasphemous labels rather than participate in an informed debate of those issues reflects how the political system has been hijacked by those who are interested in control of power and not the democratic process. You, and your personal mix of views, is a refreshing change from the lock-step, unthinking adoption of party politics we see too often from our American friends.

You certainly sound socially conservative. Why do you disagree with tax cuts?? You may want to look into what tax cuts accomplish...
like stimulating the economy by allowing people to spend the extra $$ in their pockets which, in turn, creates more jobs (this is oversimplified, of course).
It's good you ask these questions. I suggest you contact the parties and ask for a copy of their platform. Educate yourself and make your decision. That is what made me realize that I wasn't a democrat like I always thought I was. It also made my parents realize the same thing when I presented it to them!

Personally, I think it's dumb to pick one catagory and drop yourself into a neatly packaged little folder with a finite label on it. Just decide where you stand one issue at a time. When it comes time to vote or talk about politics see which political candidates have similar values to you. People who say "I hate Bush" always sound so stupid to me. I respect it a lot more if someone says "I don't agree with Bush's stance on gay-marriage, stem-cell research and war." or something to that effect for example. Even though I didn't vote for Bush, I'd still respect it more if someone said that they agreed with his beliefs instead of just saying that they don't like him simply because they are a liberal, and/or democrat. Hope that helps.

I think you are more of a progressive moderate. This is what I am. I am purposly a republican instead of a democrat because I think sometimes republicans make stupid mistakes and its up to people like you and me to shape them out. THere is already enough good democrats we just need more good republicans.
