There is a phenomena in media, ignoring all rhyme and reason to spend the majority of coverage on missing White girls and missing White women - totally disregarding missing White men, or missing Black/Hispanic/Asian men/women

Now I see on TV how they finally captured Jon Benet's real killer IN SOUTH EAST ASIA after 10 years of searching and the death of Patsey Ramsey.

I am an equal opportunity male. If I was killed, I doubt they would search for my killer for 10 F*ckin years!!!

I am also dismayed at the Natalee Holloway case. Sure she was sexy, BUT, I don't think it is fair to the rest of us that they bothered to use SONAR EQUIPTTED F-16 FIGHTER JETS to search for one missing White girl !?!
That costed over $300,000 alone.
Not to mention all these love-sick men who volunteered to fly to Aruba to search for her on foot !

This phenomena is reffered to as MISSING WHITE WOMAN SYNDROME.

I think ignoring the rest of us (who aren't White women) is RACISM. As a former Pilot I feel using jets to search for one person is an obvious missapropriation of resources.

And before you say
"well its not about money, its about a life"

ask yourself...

would they have done the same thing if a young Black/Hispanic or Asian girl went missing?

For godsake's a White girl named Amber Hagerman and they named a whole new NATIONWIDE ALERT SYSTEM for her.

Where is the Lisa Gonzalez ALERT?

Jon Benet is from a small town where nothing happens - and soem nut claimed he did it- they didn't 'find' him or look for him. Amber's parents set up the alert so that poor little girl has a legacy. Perhaps it has something to do with more active family members and an increased risk of over 70%. I agree though that every woman and girl should have national attention. Offensive things against any woman, and particularly a girl, are over looked every day. But let me ask you, every recent music video promote callous and degrading sexual relations between men and women. Do you boycott MTV? Holloway was an American in a foreign land involving a gov conspiracy- that's why. To be honest thousands of kidnapped American Children are in Saudi Arabia Right Now. Remember Elian Gonzalez? Did that fit your bill? Israel claimed to have started a war over one kidnapped man. Often these crimes are more reported because of some political agenda. And the reason why you hear less about men? Statistically much fewer victims of violent crimes, that's why. Also we have a sex and death obsessed world - so they fit the bill of good advertising. The same way naked women sell beer and men don't. Men go missing mainly when they want to be missing. Are you honestly jealous over these dead little girls? Want to trade places? Want some men twice your size to rape and murder you and then you can be in the news? I didn't think so. I guarantee if you are abducted, raped, then murdered, you will make the news - even in NYC.

Missing, rich, white girls is a better selling press story than a missing, poor, black woman. It comes down to public expectations, expectations that have a racist theme. Most people wouldn't expect a rich white girl to go missing, that's not how they act. Those same people wouldn't be surprised to hear about a missing poor black girl. They would assume she met foul play from a pimp, a boyfriend, a criminal, a drug debt, or any number of derogatory ideas.
That guy who killed Jon Bennet had admitted he did it at the time it happened. I don't know why he wasn't taken in then. Maybe he 'bought some time', or the investigators didn't believe him. If he had been black, and confessed, would he have been dis-believed?

Amber was a child..Natallie was a child-sure an older child-but a child none the less. I do agree that it seems out of proportion and almost racist in a way. The Amber alert system has saved people so its a good thing. I agree that there should be more coverage of missing persons not just a blonde or what ever.

I am a white female and I agree with you. And why is that some people are more important than others. Some children are murderd and they are lucky if they make on line in the newspaper but some report it for 10 years!! I am tired of hearing about it!

I was watching a talk show last year and there were black mothers asking why their missing daughters didn't get all the attention other missing girls get. It's really unfair. They need to devote attention to the cases of ALL missing people, regardless of race or gender.

The majority of the population in America is white. Therefore the majority of the consumers are white....i think you see where I'm going with this. If all of China came over, well first we'd be sitting really close together, but we'd also be watching stories about Chinese abductions...
