We'll never know, and need to get used to it!

To elaborate briefly:

(1) we don't know that our kind of life originated on Earth, it's conceivable that we could one day discover that it didn't; and

(2) we don't know that mankind has a role different from that of any other species, although it is again conceivable that we could one day discover that there are certain species with a special role - ie transmitting life between star systems - although personally I doubt that mankind will be one of these species (we're too delicate).

There is a Divine power behind the universe and life. Mankind's role is to act their role given in the world and go back to his sender (GOD) with a satisfaction of jobs done. In between there will be many temptation to enjoy the Devil's world, once you are under the clutches of devil, you will not be in a position to go back to your creator.
