My son's computer is a windows xp media. When he restarts it, it stops at the background screen and the icons and task bar are not loading. What could be wrong and how would he fix it? He said the computer froze up and on restart it wouldn't load any icons and start menu. Help please?

explorer is locking up... hit ctr+alt+del then go to "file" then "new task(run)" type explorer and hit enter... that should bring explorer back up so you can use the desk top, you have big probelms though! you'll need to do one of a few things... #1 reinstall windows or perform a repair install with the origional disk, #2 downlaod a fix for the errors (system mechanic is a good one, they have a 30 day full trial version) #3 get a pro to look it over for you (warning! will get pricey) if your still stuck then on the boot screen where the white bar zooms across the bottom of the screen hit f8 and it should give you the option to boot to safe mode, select that then do one of the above mentioned things... if you get stuck let me know dread_siren@sirenflame.com, I am a computer tech by trade adn can offer advice :)

His explorer has failed to start properly, it happens sometimes.
Press ctrl alt delete. Click processes.
Find and Click explorer.exe, press end process. Then press yes.

Next click file in the top left.
Then New task (run)
and type
explorer.exe
in the box provided.
This should work, and initialize the computer properly.

You should also check for spyware and problems in your computer by viewing the tutorials listed below, as they may be causing the computer problems. But most likely it was just an error.

what you probably did became delete the explorer.exe interior the tactics tab, which runs each and every little thing out of your icons for your interest bar. what you do is make sure not something's operating on your computing device (classes) then unplug the bastard. wait 10 minutes for each of the platforms on the computing device to end and plug it back in. turn it on and use like wide-spread.
