When talking about non-Terran intelligent life, why do so many people talk about life from other galaxies? Don't they realize just how many stars our galaxy has? Don't they realize just how far away the next galactic cluster is? Just the distance from our galaxy to one of it's sattelite galaxies is pretty darn far.

Our sun is one star in about a billion in the milky way. Most of the stars are actually smaller than ours. There are about 100 billion galaxies in the universe.

Life is complex enough that maybe it only happends once in a galaxy, but probably not once in a universe.

There are about 10^22 stars in the universe and no one knows how many planets. The truth is everything is simply speculation and you'll probably not be seeing green men anytime soon.

yes,i agree with you.
Actually, not only that but all the quests for another life in the universe expects the same type of life as in our earth in the other planet, star or universe. Always while searching for life a planet with warm temperature as in our earth with atmosphere as in our earth is searched. Isn't it possible that the another life we are searching for lives in totally different condiion? Can't it be considered that that another life is made of other element than carbon? Means can't it have the life processes totally different from us? If it MAY HAPPEN, than aren't these search meaningless?
The quest for life has not exceeded the level of planet in the solar system; which is a family of a single star. There are billons of star in our milky way galaxy alone and there are millons of such galaxies. There may be billions of types of conditions existing in existing in this universe.

Well, I wish people were more interested in learning, but ... I read a few years ago that 1 in 7 Americans can't find the US on a world map. Sadly, a lot of people see the stars and think, saw that. No wonder they get bored.

People confused? Impossible. That would destroy their self-esteem.

That's because the Teachers Unions (NEA and AFT) are more interested in building the little darlings self-worth than actually teaching them something difficult to learn.

The news media and Hollywood doesn't help either. Often, they throw terms around with no idea what they are doing.
