panting is normal. spray him with a mist of water from spray bottle until he moves away then you know hes had enough. As for eating how old is he bd when young eat about 80% cricket/meal worms and 20% veggie/fruit as they get older it changes until they are eating 80% veg/fruit and 20% bugs. watch if you feed dandelion leaves that you get them from a safe unsprayed with pesticide/weed and feed etc place. Do NOT feed lettuce he will get bad diarreah and it has no nutritional value. they love strawberries, kiwi, banana, grapes, (all in moderation) zucchini, squash, snow peas, cucumber, green and yellow beans, to name a few. Make sure to dust all bugs with powder before feeding some times I even put powder dust on the veggies I alternate dust from vitamin d to calcium dust. Veg/fruit should be offered everyday and bugs every other to every 3rd day if closer to full grown. Hope this helps

Of course they would rather eat crickets! It's like having McDonald's all the time if you were a child. Unfortunately, you'd get more vitamins from the cardboard it comes in. Make sure you try different things, lettuce, broccoli, cut up grapes, kale, grated carrot... you'll know when you've chosen something they like. Remember to take the veggies out between 1 and 4 hours after you put them in, they'll go bad otherwise and make them sick (if they eat it, that is). Are you using a calcium/vitamin dust on the crickets? As long as you are using that and they are actually eating them while they're "powdered", they're getting their nutrients. Also, depedning on which basking lights you are using, you might not need it. Anyway, hope this helped a bit.
Good Luck

Reptiles gape when they're hot. It's the lizard equivalent of panting. Why they gape under the heat lamp instead of just moving I have no idea, lol...
As far as greens, baby beardies are often picky about that. They should eat more of them as they get older. You can try offering a wider variety to see what they like, or chop up mealworms and mix them in. I know with Uromastyx you can use bee pollen (available at health stores) to entice appetite, it could probably work with beardies too.

Call a reptile specialist, I have had different types of lizards and they have had eating problems at times, sometimes I had to hand feed them to get them to eat their veggies, if they continue take them to a specialist, and be sure to give them supplements. take care.
