The most common fuel worldwide is a kerosene/paraffin oil-based fuel classified as JET A-1, which is produced to an internationally standardized set of specifications. In the United States only, a version of JET A-1 known as JET A is also used. See the section for JET A below.

The only other jet fuel that is commonly used in civilian aviation is called JET B. JET B is a fuel in the naptha-kerosene region that is used for its enhanced cold-weather performance. However, JET B's lighter composition makes it more dangerous to handle, and it is thus restricted only to areas where its cold-weather characteristics are absolutely necessary.

Depends on the type of engine the plane has. Piston engined aircraft run on 100 octane low-lead gasoline, which contains additives to compensate for the varying altitudes it operates at, and jet engines, which use what is basically number one grade kerosene. Also called Jet A and JP-5. Military fighter jets use what is called JP-4, a mixture of 40% aviation gasoline and 60% kerosene. That percentage will vary up to 20% either way, depending on usage.

Kerosene or Paraffin oil for jet planes

Now it is mainly used in fuel for jet engines (more technically Avtur, Jet-A, Jet-A1, Jet-B, JP-4, JP-5, JP-7 or JP-8). A form of kerosene known as RP-1 is burned with liquid oxygen as rocket fuel. These fuel grade kerosenes meet specifications as to smoke points and freeze points.

Most small propeller driven airplanes use Avgas; it comes in 100LL (low lead), 100, and 80 octane. Most turboprop airplanes use Jet A. Most jet aircraft use Jet A, Jet B, JP-4, or JP-5 jet fuel.
100LL and Jet A are the most common and are accepted by 90% of all aircraft.
