This could be a sticking key switch or a bas soiloned on the starter.

Let me explain. If the spring return is sticking and you let go of the key, it will stick and still engage the starter.
On the soiloned on the starter this device is what really starte the motor. If the soiloined is ols and the contacts inside are burned it will sometimes keep the starting engaged even if you let go of the key

To fix it you may have to change the switch not the key. So many people think the part where you put in the key is the switch IT IS NOT. that is the lock tumblembers that allow only your key to start the car.
The key switch is really on the column and is where the switch really is.
The soilonid is on top of the starter and it also can become weak over time and keep the starter engaged even when you let off the key

Hope this helps and thanks for your question

Usually associated with a bad starter drive selinoid. If you can wiggle the key and make it stop, then it's the ignition. If nothing you do helps, it has a bad starter drive selinoid and you will wan't to replace the starter.
