Hindi Chini Bhai Bhai?
With the Indian and Chinese Governments opening the historic Nathula Pass on 6th of July, a part of the silk trade route will be revived. But this time the traders won't just trade silk, atleast 44 items will be exchanged between the two countries.
The trade between the two countries has grown from a mere 0.15% to about 33% in the last six years. It is been said that the trade which amounted to about US $1.8 million in the last year will increase to a staggering amount of about US $1 billion once the trade route is opened.
Even though it means a boost in the economic position for the two rising Asain giants, there are security concerns as well. The local community fears that the number of refugees will increase along with the people willing to take up arms. Increasing security at the border seems like the only option but will it be effective, is the question, one should ask.
As with all agreements there are both direct and indirect gains or losses for India. An aspect which emerges out of this is the tourism industry. It may benifit because people especially the large buddist population may want to visit the Rumtek Monastery in Sikkim as well as Bodhgaya in Bihar.
On a closing note, I question whether the opening of the pass means that the Indo China relations are improving or is it too soon to say anything. Does the agreement tends to mean that China has accepted Sikkim as part of India as a newspaper said Beijing’s non-recognition of Sikkim (which merged into the Indian Union in 1975) was one of the problems in India-China relations.
Lets wait and watch if the two neighbours can again become Hindi Chini Bhai Bhai.

The "Hindi Chini Bhai Bhai" slogan was coined after the signing of the 1954 Indo-China Treaty based on Nehru's Panchseel concepts. While the slogan gained popularity in India, the Chinese didn't really reciprocate the brotherly feeling. The euphoria of the bhai bhai slogan was crushed badly by the 1962 Indo-China war.

Because in India, there is a tradition to fight with brothers. Hence before Indo-China war, we Indians started shouting "Hindi Chini Bhai Bhai".

China is one of India's neighbouring country and earlier the relationship between the two was very serious i.e. lot of conflicts and war.So in order to maintain peace they decieded to resolve their conflicts and in order to improve the relation they used this slogan.
