ok heres the deal i have an 1988 F-250,it has the 351w EFI,it currently has an automatic trans in it & in looking to swap it for the 5 speed stick, now i have a 1990 F-150 5.0 EFI,4x4 with the 5 speed stick now,im wondering can i seperate the 5 speed from its transfer case & use it in the F-250 or would i have to hit the junk yard for a 2 wheel drive model?I now people say its alot of work to convert from auto to manual but not really,& the truck is in awsem shape, now the 1990 thats another story it is all rotted and a blowen motor.if it will work can i use the tail housing from the auto since the 5 speed does not have one since it goes in the transfre case, also will the auto flex plate work, becouse when i took the 5 speed 4x4 out i took it up to the car wash to rinse it off & well i forgot the flex plate at the car wash went back for it but was already gone.if u can help with advice please do,,thanx so much...

You can convert it, the mounting studs should be under the dash for the pedals and such, just have to fasten it in place. The 4x4 will have a different output tailshaft housing due to the transfer case mounting. If both are AODE transmissions, you will have to find a 2 wheel drive tailshaft housing to mount the 4x4 manual into the automatic truck, and also use the flywheel and driveshaft from the manual truck. The only thing you are missing from my point of view is the extension housing for the transmission to mount the 4x4 trans to a 2wd truck.

This won't be easy. Probably the best thing to do would be to hit the junkyard and try to find a 2wd model. Otherwise, your best bet is to just leave the transfer case attached. It's a lot of extra luggage to pack around though. Glad you are putting in a 302. Although they are basically the same, I've never liked the way the 351 runs. It's just gutless. The top end is all wrong. The 302 shorter stroke feels a lot better when you pour on the throttle. Good luck.

This tranny will not work from 4 wheel to 2 wheel
You will have to change the inner shaft and add a tail housing
