George Orwell.
And I just wanted to add that he picked the year 1984 for the title because he wrote the book in 1948 and simply reversed the last two digits to get a date far enough in the future to be useful.
Strangely, he didn't ask my advice on the book at all, possibly because I was five years old at the time.
We never met. Sorry, George.

That would be George Orwell
Unless the other author's name was Eric Blair, its a fake
Eric Blair used the pen name of George Orwell to write books and 1984 is one such. Allow me to recommend the animal farm as another book from the same author that you might like to read!
But do remember that the books have the uncanny ability to freak most people out..

George Orwell is the author. But that is his pen name. His real name was Eric Blair. It is a must-read.
